Vijay Sethupathi is not someone who hesitates to speak his mind. So, when reporters kept asking him repeatedly why he didn’t work opposite younger female leads, he understandably snapped. “Please leave it,” he said. While his contemporaries are romancing heroines half their age, Vijay is the least interested.
Not one to mince words
During a recent media interaction for his upcoming film “Maharaja,” Vijay faced yet another round of silly questions. The media persons asked him for views about old male stars romancing younger female leads on screen. His response was controlled yet angry as he said, “Please leave it.” It is quite evident that he is fed up with being quizzed about the same thing in yet another Promotional event.
The “Merry Christmas” actor admitted to declining to star opposite Kriti Shetty in “DSP.” His view was that he played the role of Kriti’s dad in the national award-winning Telugu film “Uppena” and there is a significant age gap between them. While the “Jawan” actor is aware of his colleagues romancing actresses who in the past, played their sisters or daughters, he is not okay to do the same.
Vijay Sethupathi said, “I have spoken about it already. Please leave it.” Regarding the “Uppena” actress issue, the “Master” actor said, “When a director told me let’s approach Kriti for another film as a heroine, I said no because I had asked her to consider me as a dad during the climax sequence of Uppenna. So, I said no.” That is his stand even now.
Vijay Sethupathi feels the pressure to be physically fit
On the same platform, Vijay also voiced his opinions about the film industry, be it Bollywood or the South, having high expectations from male leads. Expressing that people equate stardom with fitness, he said, “Am I a star only if I have a six-pack? Aren’t we all heroes to our families without it?”
This statement also comes as Vijay keeps getting asked about why he chooses to look rustic and simple in all his films. “I keep getting asked this everywhere. I am not as simple as you all say. I don’t know what else I have to do,” he quipped. He assures he maintains a certain level of fitness that is required for him.
Does Sethupathi hate Six Pack?
“How many of us here have a six-pack? Let me get the number. Aren’t you all heroes at your homes?” he questioned at the press meet. Although, he is open to the idea of a six-pack, provided it is for a good role and a convincing story. “Suppose, if there is a project, the filmmakers should give me time for it. But just to have a six-pack, I can’t do it.”
The “Farzi” actor is extremely healthy, he says, “According to me, being handsome or smart has nothing to do with physical appearance.” “Maharaja,” releasing on June 14, is his 50th movie, directed by Nithilan Swaminathan. Vijay Sethupathi shares screen space with Mamata Mohandas and Anurag Kashyap in this crime thriller. His next projects are “Gandhi Talks” and “Viduthalai Part 2.”
