Priyanka Chopra Has One-Stop Response To OTT vs Theatre Debate: ‘Big-Screen’s Magic Will Endure’
Priyanka Chopra, in a recent interview with Hindustan Times, addressed the ongoing debate about the survival of theaters in the era of OTT platforms. The actress, who has successfully balanced her Hollywood and Bollywood careers, expressed her belief that both mediums have their unique appeal and can coexist.
The 42-year-old actress highlighted the enduring charm of theaters, calling them an unparalleled experience. “There’s nothing quite like entering a darkened theatre and watching a movie—not just with friends and family, but with a room full of strangers,” she said. Chopra emphasized the collective connection audiences feel in a cinema, driven by the scale, sound, and immersive atmosphere.
She also pointed out that advancements in technology, such as 3D, IMAX, and immersive audio, are revolutionizing the cinematic experience, making theaters an exciting destination for moviegoers. “Technology is enhancing the magic of the big screen,” said Chopra, who recently co-produced the Marathi film Paani.
On the professional front, Chopra is set to make her Bollywood comeback in an ambitious project by filmmaker SS Rajamouli, alongside superstar Mahesh Babu. According to a Pinkvilla report, the yet-to-be-titled film will be a one-of-a-kind African jungle adventure featuring Mahesh Babu as an explorer inspired by the qualities of Lord Hanuman. The script is in its final stages, with production slated to begin in April 2025. Sources reveal that Rajamouli was seeking a female lead with global appeal, and after months of discussions, Chopra was finalized for the role.
Apart from her Bollywood return, Chopra is busy with international projects. She will reprise her role in the second season of Citadel on Amazon Prime Video, starring alongside Richard Madden. Additionally, her Hollywood ventures, The Bluff and Heads of State, are slated for release in the coming months.
Chopra’s diverse slate of projects reflects her dynamic career, bridging the gap between Hollywood and Bollywood while continuing to captivate audiences worldwide.
