Actor Saif Ali Khan has addressed speculation surrounding the attack on him, dismissing conspiracy theories about his swift recovery and the circumstances of his hospital visit. In his first interview since the January 16 stabbing incident, the actor told Delhi Times that many of the internet’s most-asked questions stem from misinformation.
Why Did Saif Take an Auto to the Hospital?
One of the primary questions raised online was why Saif took an auto-rickshaw to Lilavati Hospital instead of using his personal vehicle. Explaining the situation, he said, “Nobody stays here all night. Everyone has a home to go to. We have some people in the house, but not the drivers. Unless there’s a specific need, they are not asked to stay back. I would have driven myself if I had found the car keys, but I didn’t. Looking back, it was probably for the best.”
Saif clarified that waiting for his driver would have taken longer, and given the urgency of the situation, he opted for an auto-rickshaw. “I was completely lucid and needed to get to the hospital as soon as possible,” he added.
On His Quick Recovery
Many were surprised at how quickly the actor resumed public appearances. Just two weeks after being discharged, Saif attended a promotional event for his upcoming film Jewel Thief. Responding to skepticism, he said, “I expected all kinds of reactions—some people would ridicule it, others wouldn’t believe it, and some would make fun of it. That’s just how the world is, and that’s fine. If everyone reacted the same way, life would be dull.”
Addressing Other Speculations
Saif also refuted claims that it took him 1.5 hours to reach the hospital, stating that he left his house immediately after the attack. Another question raised was about the absence of weapons at his residence. He clarified that all weapons in his Bandra home are purely decorative. “I don’t like keeping guns in the house,” he said.
The Attack on Saif Ali Khan
The actor was attacked at his residence on January 16 and was admitted to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent two surgeries. Doctors reported he sustained six wounds, including two deep ones. He remained under medical supervision for five days before being discharged on January 21.
Saif made his first public appearance post-attack at a Netflix India event earlier this month, where he promoted Jewel Thief with his neck bandaged and hand in a cast. Despite the incident, the actor appears to be recovering well and is gradually resuming work.
