Ranbir Kapoor revealed about witnessing his parent’s fight

In an interview with The Big Picture back when his movie Rockstar was released, Ranbir Kapoor discussed how he had too often seen his parents, Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, fight with each other. With reference to his on-screen persona in the movie, Ranbir disclosed that he grew up in a dysfunctional home and would often stay up late watching his parents quarrel, scream at each other, and break things. He stated:

“See, at that time, the press didn’t matter, because I was also in the fire zone. I live with my parents. Seeing them going through that phase, I was very much part of it. I was right there. I lived in a bungalow; my parents lived downstairs, I lived on the floor above. I remember sitting on the staircases for four-four hours, from 1 am to 5 am, hearing them fight, break things…”

Ranbir said how such fights quickly reached the press, making him awkward at school

Continuing the discussion, Ranbir then talked about how, in the past, the press and media would quickly learn about the arguments his parents had, and these would quickly make headlines online. Ranbir went on to say that after that, he found it very difficult to go to school because he would feel ashamed and his friends would already be aware of it. In his own words…

“Everyone goes through it, it’s just that my parents were celebrities, it was out there in the press. It was a little embarrassing in school. Your friends don’t mention it, because they’re good friends, but somewhere there was a sense of, ‘I know what’s happening’. But you deal with it.”

In the final segment of the same interview, Ranbir Kapoor discussed how his parents, Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, reconciled and stopped fighting after a certain point in time. The actor acknowledged that they understood what love and friendship meant, and that they valued those things above all else.

One such actor, known for his notorious drinking habits and casanova demeanour, was Rishi Kapoor. To put it mildly, the actor was known to have one-night stands and casual affairs with other women even after his marriage to Neetu Singh. It’s interesting to note that Neetu addressed the issue at one point and even defended her husband. As she had stated:

“I have caught him flirting hundreds of times. I always seem to be the first to hear about his affairs in outdoor locations. But I know they are just one-night stands. Two years ago, I used to fight with him about it but now I have adopted the attitude-go ahead, let’s see how long you will do it.”
