Relieved From Rs 2,000 Crore Drug Case, Mamta Kulkarni Returns To India After 25 years: ‘Really Nostalgic’
Bollywood actress Mamta Kulkarni, known for her roles in 90s films like Karan Arjun, has returned to Mumbai after a 25-year absence, marking a significant moment in her life. The actress, who had been living outside India, expressed her emotions in a video posted on Instagram, reflecting on the overwhelming experience of being back in her home country.
In the video, Kulkarni shared her nostalgia, saying, “Hey guys, this is Mamta Kulkarni. I just returned to India, Bombay, Aamchi Mumbai after 25 years. I’m really nostalgic that I went out of India in 2000, and exactly in 2024, I’m here. I’m really overwhelmed and emotional, I don’t know how to express it. Before the flight landed, I was looking at my left-right. I saw my country from the top for almost 25 years. I became emotional, I had tears in my eyes. I put my foot down out of the Mumbai International Airport and I became extremely overwhelmed.”
Kulkarni’s return comes after a lengthy legal battle in connection with a ₹2,000 crore drug haul case. Earlier this year, the Bombay High Court quashed the criminal proceedings against her, citing a lack of evidence. The actress had been named as a prime accused in the case, which stemmed from a massive drug bust in 2016.
The case, which was initially handled by the Thane police, revolved around the seizure of Ephedrine worth ₹80 lakh. Investigators traced the drugs to a factory in Solapur, Maharashtra, linked to Avon Life Sciences Limited, a company allegedly controlled by Kulkarni’s husband, Vicky Goswami. Kulkarni, who had been a director and major shareholder in the company, was accused of being complicit in the drug trafficking operation, which was said to involve the production and distribution of Ephedrine, a controlled substance.
Despite these allegations, the high court ruled in Kulkarni’s favor, striking down the case against her due to insufficient evidence. The decision came as a major relief for the actress, who had also been facing extradition proceedings in Kenya, where she had been living with her husband.
Kulkarni’s return to India, following the court’s verdict, has been a moment of personal and emotional significance for the actress, as she reestablishes her presence in Mumbai after years of legal turmoil.
