Toby Keith died on Monday at the age of 62 after a long battle with stomach cancer. He will be missed by many in the country music world. A few hours before he died, the singer posted a touching video to Instagram that showed him waving goodbye to his fans while singing at an event.
A statement on the country singer’s website says that he died gently on Monday, February 5, 2024, with his family by his side.
There was a video of Keith taking off his guitar and ending his show. More than 8 million people have watched it.
“That’s the end of the weekend, everyone. “Get back to it,” the video’s title said.
Fans are sad about Toby’s death from cancer
A lot of his fans commented on the post, saying how sad they were and how much they loved his songs.
Someone wrote, “Thank you for letting all of us see your amazing talent.” You fought a hard battle with honour and strength, and we will never forget you. The family posted on social media after the death
Keith’s family said on social media that he had died and asked for respect during this sad time.
“Toby Keith died peacefully last night, February 5, with his family by his side.” He fought bravely and with style. “Please give his family some space right now,” they wrote.
Keith found out he had cancer in 2021 and told everyone in 2022. He chose to stop touring and making new music, but he kept giving to the Toby Keith Foundation, a charity for kids with cancer.
Keith had a long and successful career that lasted thirty years. He made hits like “Should’ve Been a Cowboy,” “How Do You Like Me Now?!,” “Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue (The Angry American),” and “I Love This Bar.”
Won several awards for singing
For his singing, he won a lot of awards, including the National Medal of Arts from President Trump in 2021 and an award at the People’s Choice Country Awards in September 2023.
As of December 2023, Keith’s shows in Las Vegas were all sold out. He called this his “triumphant” return to the stage.
His wife, Tricia Lucus, his three children (daughters Shelley Covel Rowland and Krystal Keith, and son Steven Keith), and four grandkids will miss him.
