Bollywood actor Rimi Sen has filed a lawsuit against luxury car manufacturer Land Rover, seeking damages of ₹50 crore for alleged defects in her vehicle and the resulting mental harassment. The actor claims that her Land Rover, purchased in 2020 for ₹92 lakh, has been plagued by multiple issues, including problems with the sunroof, sound system, and rear-end camera.

According to the complaint, the vehicle was purchased from Satish Motors Pvt. Ltd., an authorized dealer for Jaguar Land Rover, with a warranty valid until January 2023. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns, the car saw limited use during its early months.

When Rimi began using the vehicle more frequently, she reportedly encountered a series of defects, including a noisy sunroof, screen lags, and a malfunctioning sound system and rear-end camera.

Rimi alleges that the defective rear-end camera led to a collision with a pillar on August 25, 2022. Despite her complaints, she claims the dealers have been dismissive, demanding evidence before addressing the issues. This response has left Rimi in a frustrating cycle of repairs, which she believes stems from both manufacturing defects and poor maintenance by the authorized dealer.

In her lawsuit, Rimi accuses Land Rover of negligence, stating that the car’s persistent problems and the company’s handling of the situation have caused her significant mental anguish. She is now seeking ₹50 crore in compensation for the emotional distress she endured, along with an additional ₹10 lakh to cover legal expenses. Rimi is also demanding a replacement for the allegedly defective vehicle.

Rimi Sen, known for her roles in Bengali films such as Sajani and Swapner Din, has taken this legal step as a last resort after her grievances went unaddressed by the company and its dealers. The case highlights growing concerns among luxury car owners about the accountability of manufacturers in addressing vehicle defects.
