Robert Downey Jr. Wins Hilariously Reads Out Bad Reviews From Past While Accepting Critics Choice Award 2024

Robert Downey Jr. glared down at the critics as he read out loud their past scathing comments. At the 29th Annual Critics Choice Awards, he won the coveted “Best Supporting Actor Award” for his performance in Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer.” He took this occasion to show the critics their place by reciting their past reviews of him. Revenge is indeed best served cold!

Hilarious Speech Went Viral

The 58-year-old didn’t miss his chance to have some light-hearted fun with critics as they named him the best supporting actor for this year. His fellow nominees for the same category were Mark Ruffalo, Robert De Niro, Sterling K. Brown, Ryan Gosling, and Charles Melton for “Poor Things,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “American Fiction,” “Barbie,” and “May December,” respectively.

As the “Iron Man” star glowered down the stage, he read the Critics Choice Association’s worst reviews about him: “The first one’s kinda like haiku: sloppy, messy and lazy,” he continued, “The second one is more metaphoric: Like Pee-wee Herman emerging from a coma.”

Robert Downey Jr. also could point out whether Americans or British said something. “This was from a Brit: A puzzling waste of talent,” the Marvel actor read cheekily with a British accent, “and this one lingered — amusing as a bed-locked fart.”

Fourth Critics Choice Award for Robert Downey Jr.

Famous for his engaging speeches and quotes, the MCU superhero took it to the next level with this sarcastic takedown. Downey Jr. portrayed the character of Admiral Lewis Strauss in “Oppenheimer.” He goes against the protagonist played by Cillian Murphy. Before this win, Robert Downey Jr. secured the Critics Award 3 times previously. He received it for “Tropic Thunder” for the best-supporting actor, and for “The Avengers” and “Iron Man 3” for Best Best Actor in an action movie category.

Interestingly, the Tony Stark actor, who single-handedly started the MCU or Marvel Cinematic Universe, reveals a quirky film as his favourite. You would think he might pick “Iron Man” from the behemoth franchise, but he reveals he likes the “Guardians of the Galaxy” more. His “Avengers” co-stars also feel the same as it is the perfect misfit movie with a cyborg raccoon and a tree that talks.

Plenty of Animated Moments This Awards Season

Whether it is the Golden Globes, AFI Luncheon, or Palm Springs International Film Festival Gala, Robert Downey Jr. seemed to be full of entertainment. He snatched cosy moments with A-listers kissing Meryl Streep, PDA with wife Susan Downey, and even made Cillian Murphy laugh! That’s quite an achievement as Murphy rarely ever smiles.
