The producers of Ram Charan and Jr NTR starrer ‘RRR’ have decided to postpone the film’s release date till further notice due to the growing number of Covid cases throughout the nation and the tightening of civil restrictions. SS Rajamouli, the film’s director, had flown down to Mumbai earlier on Saturday to meet with the film’s stakeholders. The meeting’s result was announced on Twitter by DVV Entertainment. “We have to postpone our project in the best interests of all parties involved,” they tweeted. “Thank you so much to all of their followers and viewers for their unwavering support.”
“Despite their unwavering efforts, certain things are beyond our control,” the production company’s creative said. “As many Indian states are closing theaters, we are left with no choice but to ask you to hold on your excitement. We promised to bring back The Glory Of Indian Cinema and at the same time we will.”
“This will be a huge drawback for exhibitors as it will also keep delaying other large Hindi and regional discharges slated for January; cash burn. As a result, the chain stores would have to go up substantially. However, if cinemas are responsive without large scale content as it’s a high operating liquidity business,” media and internet market analyst Karan Taurani said when asked the impact of the move. “In the latter 3-4 months of operation, it was only large-scale content that was generating higher footfalls.”
Sumit Kadel, an independent film and trade expert, believes it is a wise decision by the producers. “From the standpoint of the ‘RRR’ creators,” he says, “it’s a reasonable move. It would have harmed their collections if it hadn’t been for this.”
“The directors had to postpone the picture due to the Tamil Nadu government’s recent mandate to operate movie halls at 50% occupancy,” he continues, “since it is one of Rajamouli’s most significant markets.” The films ‘Baahubali 1’ and ‘Baahubali 2’ fared very well. More states may impose limits in the following days; some will place a limit on the number of people allowed in the theatres, while others will close them.”
