Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan’s Bandra residence became the site of a break-in on January 16, leading to a violent confrontation with the intruder. Forensic analysis later confirmed that the fingerprints of the arrested suspect, Shariful Fakir, 30, matched those found at several locations inside the actor’s home.
According to the police, the fingerprints were discovered on a duct pipe, a door handle leading to Saif’s younger son Jehangir’s bedroom, and a bathroom door. A white bag containing various tools and a broken knife piece was found discarded near Bandra Talao, where the suspect had apparently dropped it while fleeing the scene.
Saif Ali Khan’s statement was recorded by Bandra police on Thursday, where the actor described the terrifying encounter inside his 11th-floor flat at Satguru Sharan. In his account, Saif recalled being repeatedly stabbed in his back by the intruder after he managed to overpower him. “My grip loosened after the stranger stabbed me repeatedly on my back with a knife after I overpowered him,” Khan said in his statement.
Saif also detailed the fear his family and staff experienced during the incident. He described how his staff nurse, Eliyamma Phillip, initially spotted the intruder in the room with his younger son, Jehangir, and screamed for help. Saif and his wife, Kareena Kapoor, rushed out of their bedroom upon hearing the commotion, and Saif immediately charged the intruder to protect his family. According to a police officer quoted by Times of India, Saif confronted the attacker, who then stabbed him in a bid to escape.
Once Saif returned from the hospital, nurse Phillip informed him that the intruder had demanded ₹1 crore during the attack.
Following the incident, Saif’s sons, Ibrahim and Taimur, took him to the hospital in an auto after the stabbing. The police conducted a crime scene reconstruction on Wednesday, during which Shariful Fakir explained how he entered the building. Fakir revealed that he scaled a 4-foot wall to enter the premises, climbed a ladder to reach the duct, and cut through a rat mesh to access the fourth floor. He then used the stairs to reach the 10th floor and crawled through the duct to enter the bathroom, eventually escaping via the same route.
The police are continuing their investigation into the break-in, which has shaken Saif Ali Khan and his family.
