Actor Sanya Malhotra recently shared her thoughts on her upcoming project “Mrs”. Sanya expressed how the film’s script resonated deeply with her, as its themes of gender equality and patriarchy struck a personal chord. Although she hasn’t faced the same struggles as her character, Richa, Sanya sees reflections of her in the women around her, like her mother and sister. She hopes the film will spark change in societal attitudes.
In an exclusive interview with Hindustan Times, When asked if the film’s feminist message might alienate men who support women, Sanya clarified, “Feminism is for everyone.” She explained that patriarchy affects both genders, often placing immense pressure on men, too. Reflecting on her co-actor Nishant Dahiya’s empathy for his character, Richa’s husband Diwakar, Sanya admitted initially feeling frustrated, but later understood how deeply ingrained societal conditioning affects both men and women.

Sanya also discussed her recent viral song, “Aankh”, where she showcased her glamorous side. Despite her focus on character-driven films like “Mrs”, “Pagglait”(2021), and “Kathal” (2023), Sanya expressed her love for dance, a passion she’s had since childhood. She revealed that she practiced intensely for two weeks to prepare for the song’s choreography and embraced the opportunity to explore a new side of herself onscreen.
When asked about her real-life plans for marriage, Sanya, who has been rumored to be dating sitarist Rishabh Sharma, smiled and joked, “I don’t have the time. I can’t even take a holiday right now!”

Sanya’s films, including “Ludo”, “Love Hostel”, and now “Mrs”, have found success on OTT platforms. Sanya shared she has no concerns about her films not reaching wide audiences, as they’ve been well-received on streaming services.
