Sara Ali Khan, a popular Bollywood actress, recently shared insights about her relationship with her grandmother, veteran actress Sharmila Tagore, and her experiences with social media trolling.
Sharmila Tagore: The Voice Of Reason
Sara Ali Khan has always admired her grandmother, Sharmila Tagore, who she describes as the ‘voice of reason’ for the Pataudi family.
She appreciated her grandmother’s wisdom and guidance, especially when it came to advice on boys, films, and social life. Sharmila Tagore, being a veteran actress herself, has a wealth of experience in the film industry and social life, which she generously shares with Sara.
Sharmila Tagore: The Voice Of Modernity
In addition to being a source of traditional wisdom, Sharmila Tagore is also seen by Sara as a ‘voice of modernity’. This balance of tradition and modernity is something that Sara values greatly from her grandmother’s advice. Sharmila Tagore’s ability to adapt to changing times and her progressive views on various social issues have been a source of inspiration for Sara.
“My grandmother is my only living grandparent. She is the voice of reason for all of us. And I think that when things get hard, which they did in my life in 2020, a period that was not very good for me, my daddy was there for me, all guns blazing. And she’s there for my mom and brother. Of course, she’s there for my father as well. She connects me to my traditional roots. She is also the voice of modernity. She also gives me good advice when it comes to boys, films, and social life. She’s a champion.”
Dealing With Trolling
Sara also opened up about her experiences with social media trolling. She believes in maintaining an inner conviction and practising gratitude, even when faced with negative comments. She views trolling as a sign of relevance, stating, “Imagine being irrelevant.” For an actor, that’s death.” Sara’s approach to dealing with trolling is a testament to her resilience and positive attitude. She believes that as long as she is true to herself and her craft, the negativity of others will not affect her.
“I think you have to have an inner conviction because everybody is going to try to drag you down, especially if you give them the opportunity to. First, just be grateful. Practising gratitude helps because it could always be worse than it is…it’s always about the way you look at things. Even if I’m being trolled, for instance, I tell myself that at least they’re talking about me. Imagine being irrelevant. For an actor, that’s death. So always look at it in such a way that you can tell yourself it could have been worse.”
