Selena Gomez Breaks Down Over Trump’s Deportation Policy, Faces Backlash On Social Media

Singer-actor Selena Gomez expressed deep sorrow over the recent decision by US President Donald Trump to deport illegal immigrants, sparking widespread reactions online. The singer shared an emotional video on Instagram Stories, later deleted, where she tearfully addressed her followers.

In the video, Gomez, dressed in a black outfit and appearing to be at home, said, “I just wanted to say that I’m so sorry. All my people are getting attacked. The children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry. I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.” She also included the text “I’m sorry” alongside a Mexican flag on her post.

The video was shared widely on social media, with an account named @SELENAT0RSARMY reposting it on X (formerly Twitter). The post drew mixed reactions. Some criticized Gomez, with one user commenting, “There is a legal way to come into the United States. Why don’t they try that?” Another wrote, “It’s 2025, are we seriously still grabbing our phones to record ourselves crying???”

However, Gomez received support from many fans and followers. A user tweeted, “People laughing at her are so disgusting, mind you, her people are getting deported, including children too. She has the right to cry. She comes from Mexican immigrant parents. She was given an opportunity. We love you, Selena.” Another said, “This is heartbreaking. Can you let the woman express her emotions? Imagine being a big artist and not being able to do anything for her people; she must feel devastated.”

Gomez later posted another message on Instagram Stories, stating, “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people,” before deleting it as well.

The singer has previously spoken out on immigration issues, notably producing the 2019 Netflix documentary Living Undocumented, which highlighted the challenges faced by eight undocumented immigrant families in the US.

The deportation wave follows President Trump’s return to office and his vow to implement the largest deportation campaign in US history. According to the Mexican government, approximately 4,000 migrants have been deported during his first week back in power. While these numbers align with existing agreements, the president’s policy has reignited debates on immigration.

Selena Gomez’s emotional plea underscores the ongoing human impact of these policies.
