The documentary Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me is going to be released today, November 4 on Apple TV+. The famous singer-actress – who has a tribe of fans aka Selenators fight tooth and nail to protect her. She bares her heart and soul about her lupus diagnosis and mental health struggles, including bipolar disorder. She has faced this over the past few years in a bold, intimate documentary.

Whether we want to admit it or not, the “Justin Bieber” factor will inevitably become a permanent aspect of Selena Gomez’s life. Even if it’s been a while since Jelena gave it up for good.

We’re all curious if Selena Gomez opens up about her tumultuous on-again, off-again relationship with Justin Bieber in the documentary. The answer is yes, but, in part. Without digging too deep, JB finds more mentions in the paparazzi’s constant annoyance with Selena, repeatedly asking her about Justin, as well as a few honest confessions of dealing with the “worst heartbreak” of her life.

Filmed in montage style from newspaper clippings of their breakup, the documentary includes footage of paparazzi hounding Selena with endless Bieber-related questions, including asking her reaction to the news of JB and Hailey Baldwin’s engagement, which followed Jelena’s eventual split in 2018.

Before heading into 2019, the documentary first Kickstarted during Selena Gomez’s Revival Tour in 2016. It was the start of Selena’s mental health battle that ultimately led to the tour’s cancellation. She wasn’t feeling good. She name-dropped Justin Bieber. John Janick, Interscope Geffen A&M Records Chairman and CEO inquired her about JB. She said, “He called me this morning about the song with Justin. I’m like, ‘When am I going to just be good enough by myself? When am I going to be good enough, just me by myself, not needing anybody to be associated with?”

She said that she wrote the song Lose You to Love Me in just 45 minutes. She said, “The fastest song I’ve ever written. It’s about more than just a lost love. It’s me learning to choose myself, to choose life, but also hoping that people can find grace and peace in that too.”

The breakup with JB was the “best thing” according to Selena. She said, “I feel haunted by a past relationship that no one wanted to let go of, but then I just moved past it. And I wasn’t afraid anymore.”
