Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, renowned for his iconic Bandra residence, Mannat, is reportedly set to receive a refund of Rs 9 crore from the Maharashtra government. The refund pertains to a calculation error made during a land payment in 2019, according to recent reports.
The sprawling property, covering 2,446 square meters, was leased by Shah Rukh Khan and his wife, Gauri Khan, through a registered agreement in 2001. In March 2019, the couple paid 25 percent of the ready reckoner price for the land, amounting to Rs 27.50 crore, as per state policy. However, a subsequent review revealed an overpayment of Rs 9 crore, which the authorities are now working to refund.
The refund petition, filed by the Khans, is expected to be approved soon. This development comes as a relief to the family, who had complied with the prescribed regulations but ended up paying more than required due to the miscalculation.
Mannat, Shah Rukh Khan’s luxurious sea-facing residence, is not just a home but a symbol of the actor’s journey and success. In a 2005 documentary titled The Inner World of Shah Rukh Khan, the superstar described the emotional significance of the property. “Buying this house has been one of the most difficult things I’ve done in my life. I didn’t have a home after my parents passed away; I have a house fetish. I’ve always wanted a home. I got this house when I had kids. This is my family’s house, and someday my great-grandchildren will live here like an old Parsi family,” Khan shared.
Over the years, Mannat has become a landmark in Mumbai, drawing countless fans who gather outside the gates to catch a glimpse of the superstar. The house reflects not only the actor’s opulent lifestyle but also his deep-rooted connection to family and legacy.
The Maharashtra government’s decision to approve the refund is anticipated soon, resolving the matter amicably. For now, Shah Rukh Khan and his family can look forward to this unexpected windfall, which underscores their long-standing compliance with state regulations.
