Imtiaz Ali’s 2007 romantic comedy Jab We Met remains a cult classic, but the filmmaker and lead actor Shahid Kapoor are not convinced about the enduring happiness of its central characters, Geet and Aditya. In an interview with The Indian Express, Shahid agreed with Imtiaz’s playful observation that the iconic couple, portrayed by Shahid and Kareena Kapoor, might not still be living their fairy tale.

Shahid remarked, “It’s actually a fun idea that Geet and Aditya are now frustrated and at a divorce lawyer’s office. Aditya might say, ‘She is her own favorite. Who can ever put up with her?’” His comments add a humorous twist to the beloved narrative of Jab We Met, which saw a successful theatrical re-release last year, drawing nostalgic fans to relive Geet and Aditya’s journey on the big screen.

However, Shahid was quick to clarify that he didn’t intend to disappoint fans but was merely echoing Imtiaz’s vision. “If our filmmaker thinks these two would divorce, then who am I to argue? I’m just the actor,” he added.

Interestingly, Jab We Met was released during a significant phase in Shahid and Kareena’s personal lives. The duo, who had been romantically involved for several years, ended their relationship around the time the film hit theaters. Kareena soon began dating Saif Ali Khan, whom she later married. Post-breakup, Shahid and Kareena have not shared screen space, despite being part of the same cast in the 2016 film Udta Punjab.

When asked about a possible sequel to Jab We Met, Kareena diplomatically deferred the question to Imtiaz, while Shahid quipped that the filmmaker had “moved on.” Kareena humorously suggested fans who miss the film could revisit it on DVD, a comment that amused Shahid.

Currently, Shahid is gearing up for his upcoming projects, including Deva and a collaboration with Vishal Bhardwaj. Kareena, meanwhile, was last seen in Singham Again.

Despite their differing views on Geet and Aditya’s hypothetical future, Shahid and Kareena’s performances in Jab We Met continue to resonate with audiences, ensuring the film’s legacy as a timeless romantic comedy.
