Popular daily ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ has been entertaining the audiences for over 15 years now. However, from the last few years, it has been attracting negative limelight. Firstly, actor Shailesh Lodha made a storming exit from the show citing issues with the producer Asit Kumarr Modi and later, some other actors also left the sitcom accusing the makers on serious grounds. Now, in a recent interview with Lallantop, Shailesh opened up on quitting ‘TMKOC’. The actor revealed that he did this for his self-respect.
Shailesh on why he said goodbye to ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasamah’
Detailing more on stepping back from the famous show, Shailesh said that back in 2022, he graced a stand-up show ‘Good Night India’ on SAB TV as a celebrity guest. The show highlighted his identity as a poet. But the producer did not like it and a day before telecast, he called the actor asking how could he be on that show. And the language that Asit used was not civil, leaving Shailesh infuriated.
Furthermore, the actor said that he could not tolerate the way producer spoke to him. So, he mailed the latter about not continuing on the show in February 2022. But he continued to go for shoot till April as he knew that the team would need time to wrap up things. Shailesh also disclosed that Asit once called everyone on the set as his servant.
The actor also mentioned how the makers of ‘TMKOC’ wanted him to sign an agreement paper which said that he wouldn’t be able to speak to the media or post anything about his exit on social media. Shailesh told that the issue was never about money or payment but about how he was getting insulted. This is why he had to go to the court and the settlement was done.
For the unversed, Shailesh Lodha filed a lawsuit against Asit Kumarr Modi and took help of National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). He won it last month and was paid a hefty amount of Rs. 1,05,84,000 by the producer.
