Shark Tank India grabbed a lot of headlines during its run on TV. Its unique concept engaged a lot of viewers. Besides the show, its Sharks i.e. the judging panel became a rage among masses. It comprised successful entrepreneurs like Anupam Mittal (Shaadi.com), Ashneer Grover (BharatPe), Peyush Bansal (Lenskart), Ghazal Alagh (Mamaearth), Namita Thapar (Emcure), Vinita Singh (Sugar Cosmetics), and Aman Gupta (BoAt).
In a recent interaction, Mittal opened up about his struggling days. He talked about how he used to live a king-sized life before facing a financial crunch in 2000. He revealed that he lost all his money and had to start all over again from the scratch.
Speaking to a source, the CEO shared that he used to rent out the entire football stadiums just for parties, and give cruise ships on rent. “Some of us kids got together and started a venture called Strategy.com, just before the dot com boom. And we became worth $40 billion. We were multi-millionaires in our early 20s, at least on paper. When we had money, we had a blast. We used to rent out entire football stadiums just for parties. We used to rent out cruise ships. Our company would be shut for a week, and we’d be chilling on three cruise ships. It was a different level,” stated Anupam.
Talking about the sudden adverse situation, he quoted, “But when the meltdown happened in 2000, jeb mein do kaudi nahi bachi. Relatives started criticizing as they thought I was wasting my father’s hard-earned money. It was quite a frustrating time.”
With hard work and determination, Anupam Mittal erected an empire of millions again for himself. And as they say, the rest is history.
