‘She Wanted To Die In Nature, We Never Found Her Body’, Pooja Bedi Opened Up On Losing Her Mother

Bollywood actor Kabir Bedi’s late wife, Protima Bedi, gained popularity as a model turned dancer and got married to actor Kabir Bedi. The couple was blessed with two babies, a boy and a girl, Pooja Bedi and Siddharth. A few days after her death anniversary, Pooja talked about her late mother’s life and struggles she had to go through. Protima challenged social norms throughout her life and died tragically during a pilgrimage to Kailash Mansarovar in 1998.

When Pooja Bedi was asked what special memories she has with her mother, she said, “Teaching me ABC on the sands of Juhu beach, hugging and kissing us constantly, laughing a lot. I have thousands of memories of my mother. I think the most special thing is that if we ever brought homework home and started doing it, she would scold us and say, ‘I don’t give you homework to take to school, so how can they give you school work to bring home? This is my time with you, don’t do your homework.’

Pooja further said, ‘She was very unconventional. She was full of life and fun. Thank God, her deep, bubbly laughter made everyone roll with laughter; her sense of humour was amazing. She was a very happy person and was curious about every possible thing, and she never told us that we couldn’t do something. She believed not only in her dreams but in our dreams, everybody’s dreams, and she always helped and supported everyone.’

On her mother’s death before the age of 50, Pooja said, ‘I wish I had done a lot more with her. But she was a woman who lived life on her own terms. She lived her own way and died her own way, literally. She always said she wanted to die in nature and be one with nature. At the end of this beautiful, wonderful life, she didn’t want to be pushed into some crematorium where there would be a show of immersing her ashes in the Ganga. She wanted to die in nature. Her body was never found. You know, she had become one with the universe, with the earth. She was just an amazing energy.’
