Samantha Ruth Prabhu, a popular actor, has spoken out about her battle with Myositis, an autoimmune condition. The actor, who has a large fan base in southern cinema and was widely praised for her performance in The Family Man 2, revealed her health status on Instagram on Saturday.

She posted a photo of herself sitting on a couch with an IV drip attached to her wrist. Samantha can be seen watching the trailer for her upcoming film Yashodha while making a heart emoji with her hands for her fans.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu primarily appears in Tamil and Telugu films. Samantha Ruth Prabhu has revealed that she has Myositis.

Samantha wrote, “A few months ago, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition called Myositis.” She credits her fans’ overwhelming love for her strength to “deal with the seemingly never-ending challenges” that life throws at her. I was hoping to share this once it was in remission. However, it is taking a little longer than I had hoped.”

There were rumours circulating a few months ago that Samantha was suffering from a skin disease and was seeking treatment in the United States. We now know that her diminished appearance was caused by myositis, which can be of various types.

 

Samantha has shown tremendous strength by sharing her predicament, even as she struggles to accept it.

“It is still a work in progress for me to accept my vulnerability and to prevent myself from putting on a brave face all the time”.

The doctors are confident that I will recover completely very soon. I’ve had good and bad days… physically and emotionally… Even when I feel like I can’t take another day like this, the moment passes. I suppose it can only mean that I’m one day closer to recovery… “IT WILL ALSO PASS,” she added.

What exactly is Myositis

Myositis, according to the National Health Service UK, is a group of rare immune-related conditions. It primarily affects muscles that are weak, painful, or aching. And like most autoimmune conditions, A majority of autoimmune diseases get more severe with time.

Women are more likely to experience Dermatomyositis, which results in a skin rash and weak muscles. This disease is known as Juvenile dermatomyositis when it affects children. Polymyositis is primarily responsible for muscle weakness and inflammation in adults.

Myositis Symptoms

Myositis symptoms appear gradually and steadily, which makes identifying it and seeking a diagnosis difficult at times. According to multiple medical organisations, common Myositis symptoms include weakness, swelling, and muscle damage.

This could manifest as difficulty getting out of a chair or even climbing stairs. People may even trip or fall on a regular basis. Other complications may include skin rashes, swallowing difficulties, and general fatigue.
