Hollywood actor Sean Penn was married to Madonna from 1985 to 1989. In an interview with The New York Times, the actor spoke about the long-standing rumours about his marriage to the pop star. He quashed all the accusations of physical abuse.
It was alleged that Sean had struck his ex-wife with a baseball bat during their divorce. He has refuted any such allegations, though.
Sean quashes the claims
Looking back at his previous relationship, he said, “I had a freaking SWAT team come into my house”.
Madonna had expressed to the police her concern about guns in the house, he continued.
“I said: ‘I’m not coming out. I’m going to finish my breakfast.’ The next thing I knew, windows were being broken all around the house and they came in. They had me in handcuffs,” he added.
“Someone I Love”
Sean acknowledges his fondness for his ex-wife, despite their tumultuous history.
He said, “She’s someone I love. It turns out it’s a lot quicker to repair a friendship after a divorce if there are no kids involved. It took [ex-wife Robin Wright] and me quite a while. There was a lot of drama. Much more important to repair it if there are kids involved, but no easy swing, right?”
More about their relationship
Madonna, 65, and Sean, 63, were wed from 1985 until 1989. In 1987, the Like a Virgin hitmaker initially filed for divorce from Sean; however, she later withdrew the documents and refiled them two years later. According to several reports at the time, Sean had physically abused the pop star, beating her with a baseball bat and even tying her to a chair for several hours.
Madonna has refuted reports that she was physically abused during her marriage to Sean, though.
