Sonam Kapoor Faces Backlash For ‘Fake Accent’ In Viral Video

Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor is under fire after a recent video featuring her discussing her favorite summer holiday destinations, luxury brands, and haircare secrets went viral on social media. In the video, Sonam’s accent became the focal point of criticism, with netizens accusing her of adopting a “fake accent” that they found inauthentic and forced.

The video, which was widely circulated on platforms like Reddit, reignited past criticisms of Sonam’s speech, with users pointing out previous instances where the actress was mocked for similar reasons. Some commenters highlighted her pronunciation errors, attributing them to her accent, while others speculated that her speech was affected by cosmetic procedures, such as lip fillers.

“She is doing the same job as our hon. foreign minister Mr Jaishankar, but in a reverse way. Mr. Jaishankar is making friends all around the world while she is on the verge of banning Indians in other countries by using such rubbish accent,” one user commented, drawing a sarcastic comparison between Sonam and India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar.

Another user remarked, “Lol she tried to put on an English accent but couldn’t hold onto it for longer than the first few sentences.” The comment reflects the general sentiment that Sonam’s accent seemed forced and inconsistent throughout the video.

Several users also speculated about changes in her appearance affecting her speech. “What happened to her, she never talked like that before, you can hardly understand her. I feel, she got lip-fillers and can’t open properly her mouth?” one user questioned.

The backlash extended to how Sonam pronounced Indian names in the video, with one comment noting, “The way she butchered Indian names omg. What can we expect from others when our own pronounce our names incorrectly?”

Amid the criticism, Sonam remains focused on her acting career. She was last seen in the 2023 crime-thriller Blind, marking her return to the screen after a six-year hiatus. Her upcoming project, Battle for Bittora, is an adaptation of Anuja Chauhan’s novel and promises to be another exciting addition to her filmography.
