Sonu Sood, a Bollywood actor, has voluntarily stood down as Punjab’s State Icon ahead of the 2022 Assembly elections. Sood, who is well-known for his humanitarian initiatives in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, said the decision was reached in consultation with the Election Commission. This decision is made in advance of the state elections.
Sonu Sood took to his Twitter handle and wrote, “Like all good things, this journey has come to an end too. I’ve voluntarily stepped down as the State Icon of Punjab. This decision was mutually taken by me and EC in light of my family member contesting in Punjab Assembly Elections. I wish them luck in future endeavours.

The Election Commission said on Twitter earlier today that the 48-year-old actor’s designation as Punjab’s state icon had been revoked. In November, he announced that his sister, Malvika Sood, would run in the next Punjab elections. After tirelessly assisting migrant workers across the country in safely returning home during the lockdown, he made the decision.
He had also donated food, housing, and personal protective equipment (PPE) to individuals in need. In November, the actor revealed that his sister, Malvika Sood, will run for Moga in the Punjab elections, but he remained tight-lipped about the political party.
He recently gave 1000 bicycles to Moga schoolgirls and social workers. Their campaign will help pupils from over 40-45 villages near Moga. Teachers at government schools have identified these meritorious youngsters from disadvantaged families. Malvika Sood Sachar, Sonu’s sister, is a well-known philanthropist who has been actively involved in the Sood Charity Foundation.
Sonu will next be seen in ‘Prithviraj,’ alongside Akshay Kumar and Manushi Chillar. Due to the Omicron epidemic, the film has been postponed.
