‘Started Joint Therapy’: Aamir Khan, Daughter Ira On Mental Health Awareness, Talk On Mending Relationship
Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has revealed that he and his daughter, Ira Khan, are undergoing joint therapy sessions to address long-standing issues in their relationship. Speaking in a video shared by Netflix India, Aamir and Ira discussed mental health alongside Dr. Vivek Murthy. The actor emphasized the transformative power of therapy and its role in improving their interpersonal bond.
“Therapy is so helpful. Ira pushed me down that path, and it has been incredibly beneficial. I would strongly recommend therapy to anyone who feels the need for it,” Aamir said. He further explained, “Ira and I have started joint therapy to work on our relationship and tackle issues that have persisted for years.”
Aamir candidly reflected on the stigma surrounding therapy in India, asserting that seeking professional help is a sign of strength, not weakness. “Therapy is a very powerful thing. No matter how intelligent or worldly-wise you are, understanding the mind is complex. A trained professional can guide you in ways you cannot imagine,” he said. Addressing societal perceptions, Aamir added, “Many feel going for therapy means you have a mental problem, and they fear judgment. But it’s completely okay to seek help. Therapy has benefited me greatly.”
This isn’t the first time Aamir and Ira have spoken about mental health. Last year, the father-daughter duo appeared in a video to break the stigma surrounding the subject. In the clip shared by Ira on Instagram, Aamir highlighted how seeking help for mental health should be as normal as seeking assistance for any other task. “Zindagi mein bahut se kaam hain jo hum khud nahi kar pate. Aise faisle hum badi asani se le lete hain, baigair kisi sharam ke, baigair kisi jhijak ke,” Aamir said, stressing the need to normalize seeking professional support for mental well-being.
Ira Khan has been a strong advocate for mental health awareness. In 2021, she launched the Agastu Foundation, an initiative aimed at making mental well-being more accessible. Aamir shares Ira with his first wife, Reena Dutta.
By openly discussing their journey, Aamir and Ira hope to inspire others to seek help and prioritize mental health, breaking long-standing taboos in Indian society.
