Millie Bobby Brown is grateful to star in Netflix’ “Damsel,” which is a more mature role. Millie is looking for more exciting roles like these, where she can perform with more intensity.
She loves the idea of being a warrior and inspiring young people. In an Instagram post, the “Stranger Things” star reveals that she wants to play grittier characters from now on.
Victim to Warrior: a Full 180-Degree Turn
“Damsel” also features Robin Wright, Angela Bassett, and Nick Robinson playing pivotal roles. Millie plays Elodie, and the story is her journey from being a victim to a warrior.
This evolution in the character is what attracted her first to the script as she is growing as a person. Millie recently became a published author with the book named “Nineteen Steps.”
About “Damsel,” she says, “I’ve never done a role like this before and I was excited to do something grittier and mature.” Brown also had to go through an intense transformation herself to look and play the part in the fantasy drama. It was a challenging job, to say the least.
The 20-year-old has nothing to fight against, not one to compete with, which made it all the more difficult. “And then just to get there, to put the wig on, to get my scars, my bruises and my dirt…the exact way it was the day before…took me about two hours.”
Everyone Is a Warrior
The plot of the film is that Elodie is a dutiful damsel who is going to marry a prince. However, she realises it is a trap set by the royal family. They take her as a sacrifice in place of debt repayment. When she faces a fire-breathing dragon in a cave prison, she starts fighting.
Millie Bobby Brown says that this story has many metaphors we can identify with in our lives. “There’s a piece of Elodie in everyone and you can channel that whenever you want to.” She hopes that the audience can connect with the story where she relies on her wit to survive. Written by Dan Mazeau and directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, “Damsel” will be available on Netflix from March 8.
Millie Bobby Brown Faces Criticism in Personal Life
As a person in the public eye, the “Enola Holmes” actress finds herself reading something negative about her in the media. Her engagement to fiancé Jake Bongiovi (aged 21) last April sparked a morbid curiosity among the netizens. Their young age is the main focus; people say they have committed too soon. Jake is the son of singer and musician Jon Bon Jovi.
Meanwhile, Millie Bobby Brown asserts that both families are supportive. Last August, she said in an interview, “My parents adore him. We both come from parents who have stayed together for a long time – since they were young. I always had amazing role models for relationships.”
