TV actress Sumbul Touqueer Khan has earned huge fame in the showbiz. She made her debut as a child actor in ‘Chandragupta Maurya’ and tasted fame with her stint in the show ‘Imlie’. The actress also participated in reality show ‘Bigg Boss 16’. Despite possessing tremendous amount of talent, Sumbul had to face a lot of difficulties initially. She faced multiple rejections due to her dark skin tone before finally making it big.
Sumbul Touqueer Khan on roadblocks of her career
In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, the actress recalled early days of her career, which were full of mean comments on her skin tone. Sumbul said that her roadblocks were different. No one ever stopped her from doing what she wanted to do, but mentally, she felt somewhere she was stopped. She stated:
“Mere saath toh bohot alag tarah ke roadblocks the. Aesa nahi ki kisine roka mereko, but somewhere mentally, bohot zyada the because ye hota tha pehle.”
Further in the conversation, the actress mentioned how her skin colour used to be a problem initially. People would say she doesn’t look nice and all of it used to affect her mentally. But after she got her first show, things started getting normal. Sumbul quoted:
“Mentally bohot zyada affect karta hain wo ki koi aapko skin color ke liye bolte hain ki you are not looking nice or anything. Toh wo cheezein mujhe bohot zyada lagti thi, but dheere dheere karke when i got my pehle wala show, waha se sari cheezein khatam ho gayi. So, that was one of the biggest problems I faced in my life and in my career, till now. But now I have moved on from it.”
Earlier than this, the actress has revealed that she was so low on confidence that when makers of ‘Imlie’ approached her, she refused to do it. After facing rejections on the basis of her skin colour, she began believing that she is not meant for lead roles. However, makers convinced her for the part and the rest is history.
For the unversed, Sumbul Touqueer Khan has also starred in shows like ‘Waaris’, ‘Ishaaron Ishaaron Mein’, and ‘Jodha Akbar’. She now enjoys a massive fanbase.
