Sushant Singh Rajput Was ‘Oversensitive’: What Dil Bechara Director Mukesh Chhabra Reveals About Late Actor

Mukesh Chhabra, director of the 2020 film ‘Dil Bechara’, spoke about the late Sushant Singh Rajput’s mental health issues. In an interview with The Lallantop, Mukesh revealed how difficult it was for him to listen to the ‘Dil Bechara’ soundtrack album. He blames the memories attached to them for being so emotionally distressing. He said that most people tend to shame, which is a shame because the music is very good and worth listening to.

Denied any inkling about Sushant’s struggle with mental health.

“He was my best friend,” said Mukesh Chhabra. When asked about knowing SSR’s mental health struggles, he denied “It was during the pandemic. If I knew what he was going through, I would’ve gone and spoken to him. We used to meet very often. From his first film to his last one, our relationship remained strong.” Asked if Sushant was upset about being dropped from big projects, Mukesh said, “He would get affected very easily. He would get upset with people very easily. He would get very upset if he read a negative article about himself. He was an oversensitive person; we all are.” Mukesh admired Sushant’s grit to give all he had in him to his films.

His death and the aftermath

Sushant committed suicide in 2020. A CBI investigation was launched after a huge uproar from people. It also created a division within the Bollywood. The aftermath of his death reshaped the B-Town in several ways and brought the debate of nepotism to the forefront of Bolly channels. The pushback was so hard that even Karan Johar had to delay and change the concept of his chat show, Koffee with Karan.

‘Dil Bechara’, costarring Sanjana Sanghi, was his last project. It was the Hindi remake of ‘The Fault in Our Stars. The movie premiered on Disney+ Hotstar a few weeks after Sushant’s death.
