Bollywood diva Sushmita Sen won millions of hearts with her web show Aarya. And seems like she is attracting a lot of powerful roles after receiving the much-needed recognition through her digital debut. Recently, it was reported that Sen has signed a six-episode web series based on transgender activist Gauri Sawant. And now confirming the same, Sushmita has dropped the first look as Sawant.
Taking to her Instagram handle, Sushmita shared a picture of herself dressed up in a red and green saree with a bold red bindi. The fierce look of Sushmita as Gauri in a show titled Taali is captioned as, “Taali – Bajaungi nahi, bajwaungi! #firstlook as #ShreegauriSawant.”
“Nothing makes me prouder & more grateful than to have the privilege of portraying this beautiful person & of bringing her story to the world!! Here’s to life & to everyone’s right to live it with dignity!” she added.
Taali will depict will various aspects of Sawant’s life, challenges, journey, and warm relationship with her daughter. It is helmed by Marathi filmmaker Ravi Jadhav and is produced by Arjun Singgh Baran along with Kartik D Nishandar.
A source has revealed that the series will be massive and will have numerous intersex artists in it. “With the story focusing on the protagonist’s struggle to become India’s first transgender mother, the show will require 25-50 trans artistes every day. A total of 300 transgender artistes have been hired for pivotal crowd scenes that will be shot over the next month. After filming at the Dahisar studio for two weeks, the crew will move to the Lata Kunj bungalow in Irla. Parts of the bungalow have been rebuilt for the stint that will go on till November 7,” it stated.
For the unknown, Gauri Sawant is a transgender activist. In 2000, she founded Sakhi Char Chowghi Trust. This NGO provides counseling to transgenders and promotes safe sex. In 2008, Gauri adopted a girl named Gayatri after the latter’s mother died of AIDS. In 2019, she became goodwill ambassador of the Election Commission in Maharashtra.
