Sushmita Sen Recalls Magazines Refusing To Feature Her On Cover In 90s, ‘…Bad Influence’

Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen is current winning accolades for her performance as a transgender social activist, Gauri Sawant in her recently released web series, ‘Taali’. Like her reel character, the actress has often broken stereotypes in real life too. She went on to adopt two daughters at a time when it was really difficult to go against the law and do such a thing. Apart from this, Sushmita has always put her piece of mind in front of the media in a bold way. Though her views are welcomed today, in 90s, she had to face the the repercussions of being ‘bindass’ in public.

In a recent interview with Film Companion, the actress recalled the time when she had to face the consequences of putting forward her strong opinions. She said that in the 90s, it was a much more closeted society. So for anyone to speak their mind and say anything that they believed in was like, ‘she is a bad influence, don’t get her in front of our kids and everyone else’.

Sushmita further added that she doesn’t blame the society. She was loud and clear. But with time, she learnt to share her thoughts in a better way. The actress mentioned that “the world is far more accepting now.” She said that though there is a “haw” element in society, the situation has still improved.

Meanwhile, Sushmita Sen appeared last in Ravi Jadhav’s biographical web show, ‘Taali’  She will come up next with third instalment of her hit series ‘Aarya’. It is helmed by Ram Madhvani.
