Recently, ace actress Sushmita Sen appeared on Twinkle Khanna’s show Tweak India. The two ladies indulged in some tete-e-tete as they talked about films, relationships, marriages, heartbreaks, and kids. In the conversation with actress-turned-author, Sushmita made some shocking revelations about her personal and professional life.
While interacting with Twinkle, Sen reminisced how she got her first film Dastak (1996). The former Miss Universe (1994) said that she received a call from Mahesh Bhatt’s team. “When I got a call from Mahesh Bhatt’s office, I was like, ‘Director Mahesh Bhatt?’ because nobody ever called me for anything. He called and said let’s just meet for a cup of coffee. He met and said, ‘I want you to play Sushmita Sen in a movie,” she shared.
Going further, Sushmita revealed that though she was hesitant to play the offered part as she had not done acting before, Mahesh Bhatt convinced her for the role by saying, “Maine kab kaha you are a fabulous actor? I am a fabulous director, just come.”
Later when the Aarya actress reached to film the mahurat shot, an unpleasant incident occurred that made her angry. She went on to share that how she broke down after Mahesh Bhatt attacked her publicly. “I am doing this mahurat shot jaha pe I pull out my earring and throw it at somebody. I am doing it so bad I can’t even begin to tell you. Yeah, he’s a fabulous director I will tell you that… He broke his inhibitions in front of 40 media people, and 20 production guys, publicly attacking me. I then told Mahesh Bhatt I told you I can’t act. Why did you call me for this? I don’t know how to act.”
When Sushmita started crying, A fuming Bhatt shouted, “Kya leke aaye ho? Playing Miss Universe like this on camera? She can’t act to save her life.” And as Sen started storming out of the set, he grabbed her and said, “That’s anger, go back and do it (on camera).”
Later the beauty queen got into the character so much so that she ended up ripping her ear while pulling out the earring. This was how an actress was carved out of Sushmita Sen by Mahesh Bhatt. Well, we cannot thank him enough to give us such a star.
