The primary causes that could be driving Hindi movies to perform less good than anticipated at the box office were addressed by actress Swara Bhasker. One of them is also linked to the controversy surrounding Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, which hurt the reputation of the area. In addition, she drew a parallel between the situation and what happened to Congressman Rahul Gandhi.
Aamir Khan, Taapsee Pannu, and Akshay Kumar movies including Laal Singh Chadha, Dobaaraa, and Raksha Bandhan all struggled at the box office as a result of Twitter boycott movements. Many users also accessed earlier tweets to call for a boycott of the films. Future films like Liger and Pathaan are currently experiencing the same issues, according to trends on social networks.
Anurag Kashyap, a filmmaker, was interviewed by India Today and spoke about the situation in Bollywood, where only a few films were successful in the previous year, according to Swara. According to Anurag, viewing movies has become a leisure pastime in which people may no longer be interested as a result of the “economic recession” in the nation. Swara agreed with him and denied claims that Bollywood was to blame for the decline in moviegoers.
Swara emphasised that the failure of movies to perform well in theatres may be due to viewers’ post-Covid-19 thoughts. “The fourth reason is after the unfortunate and tragic suicide of Sushant, Bollywood has been painted as a dark place, that is only about drugs and alcohol and sex.” She continued by saying that those who merely disagree with them frequently “discredit” the area.
Swara also made a comparison between the current situation of Bollywood and Rahul Gandhi, who is called “pappu” Pappun. “Everyone kept calling him pappu, so now everybody believes it. I have met him and he is a perfectly intelligent and articulate man. With Bollywood also, this ‘pappufication’ has happened,” explained the actor who will be next seen in Jahaan Chaar Yaar.
