Filmmaker Karan Johar remains in the news for one thing or the other. Back in time, when the nepotism debate ignited, he was the one to receive all the heat of it. But seems like Johar is trying hard to break the notion of him casting only popular star kids in his films. According to sources, Karan has zeroed in actress Mahima Makwana for his web series Showtime opposite Emraan Hashmi.
Let us tell you that Mahima recently graduated to films with Salman Khan’s Antim: The Final Truth opposite Ayush Sharma. Before that, she was part of two Telugu films and TV shows like Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke, Adhuri Kahaani Hamari and Mariam Khan: Reporting Live.
“After doing two Telugu movies, she made her Bollywood debut with Salman Khan-starrer Antim: The Final Truth last year. She was one of the many contenders for Showtime, and did multiple screen tests over four months before being finalised. Besides the web series, she has shot for Ashwiny Iyer and Nitesh Tiwari’s next, Bas Karo Aunty,” stated the source.
Makwana was spotted outside Dharma office last week. It is from this time that rumors of her signing a project with the leading production house made their way to headlines. Given the nature of story, makers wanted a fresh face for Showtime. As per the reports, Mahima went through several rounds of auditions before being finalized for her part.
If all goes well, the series will go on floors by November. “It will be directed by Mihir Desai, who recently helmed Masoom, and Archit Kumar of Dr Arora fame. The ensemble cast is currently being locked,” the source added.
The series Showtime was announced by Dharmatic Entertainment, Karan Johar’s production house’s web wing in association with Disney+ Hotstar. It is about entertainment business. The show will depict about the struggles of an outsider in the industry and practice of nepotism. Most of its schedules will be shot in Mumbai.
