Simi Garewal was born on 17 October 1947. Born in Ludhiana, Simi was brought up in England and did her schooling at Newland House School. Simi saw the film Awara at the age of five, since then a different passion for cinema developed in her and this passion continues even today. Simi is called ‘The Lady in White’.

Her parents were among the first to stop Simi from appearing in films. They did not want their daughter to go into acting but Simi was not ready to accept that. After several days of hunger strike, her family members agreed to accept this fact. After that, she came to India. Due to good English, Simi was offered a role in the film ‘Tarzan Goes to India’. Simi was only 15 years old at that time. This was the debut film of Simi Garewal in 1962 with Firoz Khan. Her performance in this film was good, due to which she got an opportunity to work in many Hindi films in the 1960-70s.
During her film career, Simi gave many such bold scenes which created a sensation everywhere. She was the boldest actress of that era. In 1970, Raj Kapoor’s film ‘Mera Naam Joker’ changed the fate of Simi. Simi’s role in the film was not that long but she revolved around the base point of the story. Her changing of clothes in the field is considered one of the most talked-about bold scenes in Hindi cinema.

In the early 1980s, Simi wanted to do something other than acting, so she started working in the field of writing and direction. She created her own production company ‘Siga Art International’. In which she took charge of directing, producing, and writing a TV series ‘It’s Woman’s World’ for Doordarshan. Apart from this, Simi wrote and directed a Hindi feature film ‘Rukhsat’.
Simi became the host of Star Plus’s talk show ‘India’s Most Desirable’ in which she used to interview Bollywood, businessmen, cricketers, and media personalities. Simi also worked for BBC’s docu-drama ‘Maharajas’.
