The Duchy of Cornwall has traditionally been led by the reigning monarch’s eldest son. Charles bestowed the title of Prince and Princess of Wales on William and Kate, just as the Queen did on him and his first wife, Princess Diana. (When she married then-Prince Charles in 2005, Camilla became the Princess of Wales, but she chose to go public as the Duchess of Cornwall out of respect for the late Princess Diana).
