The much-anticipated Bollywood comedy Mere Husband Ki Biwi, starring Arjun Kapoor, Rakul Preet Singh, and Bhumi Pednekar, is all set to hit the big screen on February 21. While its quirky title and lead trio’s chemistry have already piqued interest, the film has also made headlines for the cuts imposed by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
The CBFC’s Examining Committee (EC) suggested four modifications—one visual and three dialogue-related. A particular “woman hand gesture” was ordered to be replaced, while the term “Haryanvi” was substituted with “Ek Gang.” Additionally, the reference to “Modi ji” in a dialogue was modified to “The Government.”
The most intriguing alteration, however, was an instruction to tone down a “sensual audio of a woman” by 50%. Sources suggest this likely refers to a scene from the film’s trailer, where Rakul Preet Singh’s character moans loudly as Arjun Kapoor’s character kisses her neck to make Bhumi Pednekar’s character jealous.
Following these edits, Mere Husband Ki Biwi secured a UA 13+ certification. This age-specific rating system, reportedly introduced in November 2024, has been applied to recent films like Sky Force, while Chhaava, Deva, Loveyapa, and Badass Ravi Kumar were categorized under UA 16+.
The film’s censor certificate was officially issued on February 17, confirming a runtime of 2 hours, 23 minutes, and 44 seconds (143.44 minutes).
Adding a personal touch to its release, the film is produced by Jackky Bhagnani, who is married to lead actress Rakul Preet Singh. The premiere on February 21 coincides with their first wedding anniversary, making it a double celebration for the couple.
With its mix of humour, romance, and controversy, Mere Husband Ki Biwi is shaping up to be a film that will have audiences talking. Whether the CBFC’s edits dull its impact or add to the intrigue, fans will find out soon enough.
