Hollywood’s bad boy Shia Labeouf, star of “Transformers” franchise recently revealed his plans to become a church deacon. On New Year’s Eve, he converted to Catholicism and took Holy Communion. The controversial actor had always been on the wrong side of the news for years, from his alcoholism to an abuse case filed by then-girlfriend FKA Twigs, who once dated Robert Pattinson. But now, he turns a new leaf with renewed faith in the Gospel.
Teen Talent to Canceled Hollywood Star
At one point in time, Shia Labeouf was the “talent to watch out for,” with many films in the pipeline. Notable names included Disney and Steven Spielberg. He was indeed a part of one of Spielberg’s “Indian Jones” films. In the “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” installment, he played the role of Mutt Williams, Jones’ son. After a fallout with the maverick director, he was no longer in the franchise.
His career began as a teen actor, and he shined up to the early 2010’s. His turning point came in the form of “Sam Wittwicky” character in the “Transformers” films, opposite Megan Fox. His other famous movies are “Fury,” “Disturbria,” “Lawless,” and “The Peanut Butter Falcon.” Alas, scandals followed everywhere he went and for a while, he was canceled by Hollywood.
Allegations Surrounding Shia Labeouf
The 37-year-old was often plagued by allegations ranging from plagiarism to public intoxication to misdemeanor and the most serious lawsuit involving British singer and former partner FKA Twigs. “I hurt many other people… I was a pleasure-seeking, self-centered, and inconsiderate human being,” Shia Labeouf said in a podcast in 2023.
The embattled actor is now in the midst of a legal matter and has served probation for theft and petty battery. That said, the hunk is now returning to acting with God’s grace. He recently converted to Catholicism in the USA.
Deep Faith in the Church and Service
LaBeouf’s father is Catholic, while his mother is Jewish, and he had a bar mitzvah at 13. But now he has fully embraced Catholicism as he received confirmation at a Solvang, California, parish. Incidentally, it was the place where he first trained for his 2022 movie “Padre Pio.”
Speaking of the film, Shia Labeouf said, “I have never, in the course of my entire career, been on a set where the film felt easier to make.” He adds, “I want to become a deacon sometime in the future. I love Catholicism because it’s so nuts and bolts.”
His upcoming film “Megalopolis” directed by Francis Ford Coppola is an epic project spanning a $100 million budget. Seems like the transformers’ guy has transformed for good, and his sincere desire to grow is on point!
