Triptii Dimri Says She Didn’t Find Animal ‘Anti-Feminist’: ‘I Don’t Give Such Tags’

Bollywood actor Triptii Dimri has carved a niche for herself with unconventional roles, but her decision to star in the 2023 blockbuster Animal marked a significant shift in her career. In a candid conversation with Filmfare, the actor discussed her journey, the challenges of portraying a morally ambiguous character, and her aspirations to explore mainstream cinema.

Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Animal features Ranbir Kapoor in a gripping tale that drew both acclaim and criticism, particularly for its perceived “anti-feminist” undertones. Addressing these claims, Dimri revealed her perspective, emphasising that she refrains from labeling films in such terms.

“I didn’t look at it as an anti-feminist film. I don’t give such tags to films. Even while doing Bulbbul and Qala, I never thought I was doing a feminist film,” Dimri said. She added that her connection to the character and her trust in Vanga’s vision influenced her decision to take on the project.

A Bold Step into Grey Characters

Dimri’s role in Animal marked a departure from the sympathetic, good-natured characters she portrayed in films like Bulbbul and Qala. In Animal, she played a grey character who acts as a mole in the protagonist’s life.

Reflecting on the challenge, Dimri said, “He [Vanga] wanted to see innocence and kindness in my eyes, but inside, I should have that mission in my heart. How do I get there, that was my job. I found it challenging and interesting, and that’s what made me say yes.”

This shift in character type was a refreshing change for the actor. “I have only done goody and nice person roles – who get sympathy at the end – till now. This was a nice space to be in,” she added.

The Lure of Big-Budget Cinema

Dimri also admitted that the grandeur of Animal played a role in her decision. “Everybody wants to do a big film,” she said, adding that she wanted to learn from the process of making large-scale productions.

“At that time, getting a big film was a big deal for me. Maybe I’ll get to learn something new and see how big films are made,” she shared.

Following the success of Animal, Dimri is set to star in Dhadak 2 opposite Siddhant Chaturvedi, continuing her journey in Bollywood’s evolving landscape.
