Twitter Showcased Mixed Perspectives Amid The Release Of Meenakshi Sundareshwar’s Teaser: Checkout!
The teaser of the movie ‘Meenakshi Sundareshwar’ has been released on Wednesday. The teaser showcased the cast of Sanya Malhotra and Abhimanyu Dassani, as a young couple in Tamil Nadu trying to make their relationship work over long distances.
However, after the trailer was released, many Tamilians objected to the Bollywood movie as re-stereotyping their culture. Some have mentioned that Tamilians do not “speak” like that or that have a shrine for actor Rajinikanth in their home.
Following are the tweets on Twitter,
- “Meenakshi Sundareshwar! Maybe it’s time #karanjohar or any director could use #tamilian for such a script! You must delve into the nuances of our traditions. It can’t be wrong all the time! Whether it’s #twostates, you’ve let us down! #hindicinema #Bollywood grows up”, a person tweeted on Twitter.
- “Bollywood, I have a question for you – why can’t you just leave us alone?” asked someone else.
- I don’t know when Bollywood will understand that not all Tamilians are Brahmins. All Tamilians do not eat vegetables. Even Brahmins do not dress or speak like that these days. And not all Tamil songs are popular songs. And stop your obsession with our superstar,” said a tweet. “Less than 10 seconds into the video and I know you haven’t investigated,” wrote one person commenting on the wedding scene in the teaser.
- “Add Tamil songs, Tamil icons, and Tamil culture (grossly stereotypical) to get attention, but the characters only speak Hindi! Chennai is only a 2-hour flight from Mumbai, so a visit would have made it clear to the creators what an atrocity it is,” read another tweet.
While many Twitter users were dissatisfied, others praised Sanya and Abhimanyu and looked forward to the movie. “Excellent teaser that gives me a real experience with good content,” wrote one. “This will be the best movie. I just can’t wait to see it until November 5,” wrote another.
Directed by Vivek Soni, ‘Meenakshi Sundareshwar’ will launch on Netflix on November 5. It is produced under the banner of Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.
