Udit Narayan Comes Up With Defence Amid Kissing Video Row: ‘They Love Me, I Love Them Back’
Veteran playback singer Udit Narayan has found himself in the spotlight after a video from one of his live concerts went viral. The clip, which surfaced online recently, purportedly shows Narayan kissing a female fan on the lips after she leans in to peck him on the cheek while taking a selfie. Addressing the controversy, the singer defended his actions in an interview with Bollywood Hungama.

Responding to the viral video, Narayan dismissed the allegations of inappropriate behaviour, emphasizing his deep bond with his fans.
“Why would I do something now, at this stage of my life when I have achieved it all? There is a deep, pure, and unbreakable bond between my fans and me. What you saw in the so-called scandalous video was a manifestation of that love. They love me, and I love them back even more,” he stated.
The 68-year-old singer further asserted that he has no regrets about what transpired. “Do you hear any regret or sorrow in my voice? In fact, I am laughing as I talk to you. It is not something sleazy or secret. It is there in the public domain. My heart is pure. If some people want to see something dirty in my act of pure affection, then I feel sorry for them. I also want to thank them because now they’ve made me even more famous than I already was,” he added.
Narayan also suggested that the video’s sudden emergence on social media was driven by malice, as the concert in question took place months ago during his US-Canada tour. He claimed that such controversies only strengthened his resolve, adding that he had the blessings of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, who considered him her favourite co-singer of his generation.

The clip in question shows Narayan performing his popular 1990s song Tip Tip Barsa Pani from the film Mohra. In one of the circulating clips, the singer is seen gesturing to security personnel to allow a female fan closer to the stage for a selfie. As she leans in to kiss him on the cheek, Narayan is seen tilting his head and kissing her on the lips.
The incident has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some defending the singer’s actions as a harmless exchange of affection, while others have criticized it as inappropriate.
