‘Unfortunate Truth’: Monali Thakur Breaks Silence One Varanasi Concert Walkout

Singer Monali Thakur has publicly condemned the organisers of her recent Varanasi concert for alleged se`xual harassment accusations against her and her team. Thakur, who had earlier walked off stage due to mismanagement, took to Instagram on Monday to share her perspective on the matter, calling out the organizers for unethical practices.

In a detailed post, Thakur revealed, “I had hoped not to start the new year addressing the horrific incident in Varanasi. Attached is a confession and apology letter from the founder of the event-organizing company. This should clarify any doubts about the defamatory accusations made against my team and me.”

Allegations of Abuse of Power

The singer expressed her dismay over the alleged misuse of laws meant to protect against se`xual harassment, emphasizing how such behaviour undermines genuine survivors. “Weaponising these laws for personal vendetta is not only an abuse of rights but deeply disrespectful to real survivors,” she wrote. Thakur also criticised young women participating in such actions, stating it damages trust in a serious issue.

Recounting the Incident

Monali recalled the December 22 event, describing it as marred by “severe negligence in safety, false accusations, and life-threatening intimidation.” She highlighted the mistreatment of vendors and crew, stating, “Cheating hardworking individuals or disrespecting backstage crews is unacceptable. Such behaviour must not be tolerated in the live entertainment industry.”

Thakur had previously ended the concert midway, citing an unsafe stage setup. The event management firm, Back Room Entertainment, countered these claims, accusing her team of harassment and claiming her departure was due to unrelated issues.

Call for Industry Reform

The singer, known for hits like Moh Moh Ke Dhaage and Cham Cham, has called for stricter regulations to safeguard performers and crew in the entertainment sector. She expressed gratitude to the UP and Varanasi Police for their swift action and thanked her audience for their unwavering support.

Monali concluded by reiterating her commitment to highlighting such issues, stating, “We must ensure a professional, safe, and respectful environment for all involved.”

This controversy has sparked widespread discussions on ethics and safety in India’s live entertainment industry, highlighting the need for systemic reforms.
