Bollywood star Varun Dhawan recently joined filmmaker Atlee and the team of Baby John for an insightful session on Pinkvilla Masterclass. Known for his rise from being the son of acclaimed director David Dhawan to becoming one of Bollywood’s leading actors, Varun shared practical advice for outsiders striving to make it big in the film industry.
“Jo Dikhta Hai Vo Bikta Hai”
During the session, Varun was asked how newcomers can leave a lasting impression on filmmakers. Drawing from his own experiences, the Bhediya actor emphasized the importance of visibility in the entertainment world. “Jo dikhta hai vo bikta hai (What is visible, sells),” he said, encouraging young actors to use social media effectively.
Varun explained, “It’s very difficult to stay behind the scenes and expect someone to notice you and take a chance. You have to get yourself out there, even if it’s just a little. Social media can be a powerful tool for showcasing your work and catching the attention of directors and producers.”
He shared an example of a close friend who hesitated to join social media despite a successful stint in advertisements. “I told him, ‘It’s not about becoming an influencer. You need to put your work out there so that if a director sees it, he can see a glimpse of your potential.’”
Practical Advice for Aspiring Actors
While Varun acknowledged his privileged background as the son of a filmmaker, he stressed that consistent effort and self-promotion are crucial for success in today’s competitive landscape. “I’m not saying you should aim to be an influencer, but you must share your work. Visibility is key,” he concluded.

On the professional front, Varun is gearing up for the release of Baby John, directed by Kalees. The action-thriller, featuring an ensemble cast including Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi, Zara Zyanna, and Jackie Shroff, is set to hit theatres on December 25, 2024.
