Varun Dhawan Recalls ‘Scary’ Underworld Threat Call to Family, Says Staff Confronted Caller

Actor Varun Dhawan has recalled a “scary” incident involving an alleged underworld threat call made to his family, shedding light on an unsettling episode from his early years.

In a recent interaction, Varun spoke about how the call was received at their residence and created a tense atmosphere at home. He said the incident occurred when his father, filmmaker David Dhawan, was already an established name in the film industry.

According to Varun, the caller allegedly issued threats, which alarmed the household. However, instead of succumbing to fear, members of the staff at their home intervened and confronted the caller directly. He shared that the staff argued with the person on the phone, pushing back against the threats.

Describing the moment, Varun said the situation felt intense and frightening at the time, especially given the nature of the threat. He noted that such incidents were not uncommon during a certain phase in the film industry, when reports of underworld influence and intimidation had surfaced in connection with Bollywood personalities.

The actor said that while he was young during the episode, the memory has stayed with him. He added that witnessing such situations firsthand gave him an early understanding of the pressures and risks associated with being part of the film industry.

Varun also reflected on how his family handled the situation without escalating it further. He indicated that despite the seriousness of the call, the matter was managed internally, with the staff playing a key role in diffusing the tension at that moment.

The actor’s comments come amid broader conversations about the history of underworld links and threats in the Hindi film industry, particularly during the 1990s and early 2000s. Several filmmakers and actors had previously spoken about receiving similar calls during that period.

Varun Dhawan, who made his debut with Student of the Year in 2012, has since established himself as a leading actor in mainstream Hindi cinema. Over the years, he has featured in films across genres, including commercial entertainers and critically noted performances.

David Dhawan, meanwhile, is known for directing a number of successful Bollywood comedies and has been a prominent figure in the industry for decades.
