Veteran actress Asha Parekh is going to receive the ‘Dadasaheb Phalke’ award for her contribution to Indian cinema. This is what Union Minister Anurag Thakur said. She is a popular actress in the 60s and 70s. Earlier, she was honored with Padma Shri by the Government of India. The award will be handed over to her on September 30.
Union I&B Minister Anurag Thakur said, “The Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to recognise and award Asha Parekh ji for her exemplary lifetime contribution to Indian Cinema.”
She debuted in Bollywood as a child. She was known as ‘baby Parekh’ then. She started her acting career with hope at the age of 10. She acted as a child actor in Bimal Roy’s film ‘Maa.’ After that, role, lights, action – all became her forever partners. There was a little break because of her education.
Dil Deke Dekho, directed by Nasir Hussain, brought another hope to the screen. The actress paired up with Shammi Kapoor in the film. After that, the sixties actress did one film after another under Nasir’s direction. ‘Jab Pyaar Kisi Se Hota Hai’, ‘Tisri Manjil’, ‘Peyar Ka Mausam’ – many such films. Many honours have come over the years. Asha Parekh retired from acting in 1995.
The I&B ministry said, “Asha Parekh is a renowned film actress, director and producer and an accomplished classical dancer. Starting her career as a child actor, she made her debut in Dil Deke Dekho, and has acted in over 95 movies since, including Kati Patang, Teesri Manzil, Love in Tokyo, Aya Saawan Jhoom Ke, Aan Milo Sajna and Mera Gaon Mera Desh.”
