Veteran actress Jaya Parda Jailed For 6 Months, Fined 5000 Rupees: Know Why!

Famous actress from the 80s and 90s, Jaya Prada, is facing a serious problem. Recently, a court in Chennai found her guilty and sentenced her to 6 months in jail. They also ordered her to pay a fine of Rs 5,000. The court also found her business partners, Ram Kumar and Raja Babu, guilty and gave them sentences too. The issue revolves around Jaya Prada not giving the proper health insurance money, called ESI, to her theater employees, which the court confirmed.

Jaya parda sentenced to jail for 6 months

Jaya Prada used to own a theater in Chennai, which she later closed down. The employees who worked there complained that Jaya Prada didn’t pay their salaries and didn’t contribute the ESI money to the Government Insurance Corporation as required. The Labor Government Insurance Corporation took this matter to court, which resulted in Jaya Prada and her associates being taken to the Egmore Magistrate Court in Chennai.

Actress requests to drop case

Reports suggest that Jaya Parda had admitted to the allegations and even offered to pay the owed money in an attempt to have the case dropped. But the court didn’t accept this and went ahead to give Jaya Prada a jail term of 6 months along with a fine.

Had left acting for politics

Jaya Prada was a well-known actress, but she left her acting career in 1994 to join the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and venture into politics. She became a Member of Parliament (MP) in the Rajya Sabha and later in the Lok Sabha. In 2019, she switched from TDP to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
