Actor Vikrant Massey, celebrated for his roles in 12th Fail and Mirzapur, recently disclosed that he and his family, including his nine-month-old son Vardaan, have been subjected to threats following the release of the trailer for his upcoming film, The Sabarmati Report.
The film, a historical drama slated for release on November 15, 2024, revisits the controversial 2002 Godhra train burning incident, drawing significant public attention and sparking heated debate.
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Massey opened up about the troubling situation. He revealed that his social media accounts and WhatsApp messages have been flooded with threatening comments. Shockingly, even his infant son’s name has been dragged into the backlash.
“These people know I became a father recently to a child who can’t even walk yet. They are dragging his name, and I am concerned for his safety. What society are we living in?” Massey questioned, expressing dismay at the personal attacks.
Despite the threats, Massey stated he refuses to be intimidated. “I am not afraid, but I am deeply unsettled. If fear guided us, we wouldn’t have dared to bring out a film like this,” he said. The actor reaffirmed his commitment to taking on projects with impactful narratives, regardless of potential resistance.
Directed by Dheeraj Sarna, The Sabarmati Report features an ensemble cast, including Raashii Khanna, Ridhi Dogra, and Barkha Singh. Produced by Balaji Motion Pictures in association with Vikir Films, the movie is co-produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R Kapoor, Amul V. Mohan, and Anshul Mohan.
The filmmakers aim to shed light on the socio-political complexities surrounding the Godhra incident, a subject that continues to evoke strong emotions and opinions.
While the trailer has sparked anticipation among audiences, it has also ignited a wave of controversy, underscoring the challenges faced by artists tackling sensitive historical topics. For Massey, the threats have added a deeply personal dimension to this already contentious project.
As the release date approaches, all eyes remain on The Sabarmati Report, a film poised to generate both conversation and controversy.
