Vikrant Massey Opens Up On ‘Retirement Post’: ‘Wrote It At Night, Was Unable To Sleep’

Vikrant Massey’s recent Instagram post announcing a career break sent shockwaves through social media, with many fans mistakenly interpreting it as a retirement announcement. However, the actor was quick to clarify that he was not stepping away from his profession permanently. At the Times Network India Economic Conclave, Vikrant addressed the misunderstanding and shared the emotional and physical toll his career has taken, particularly following the success of his films 12th Fail and The Sabarmati Report.

Reflecting on his Instagram post, Vikrant explained, “The last few years have been truly phenomenal. I reflect upon the year gone by with utmost humility and gratitude. As an artiste, I have been working for 21 years professionally, but after 12th Fail, it has been remarkable.” He added that the post was made late at night due to his inability to sleep.

The actor also revealed that he had never imagined the level of recognition his films would receive. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the entire cabinet watched The Sabarmati Report the very next day after the screening. I never thought this would happen in my life. I was truly overwhelmed by the love and reception the film received,” he said.

Vikrant further explained that the decision to take a break came after experiencing “creative saturation” following his intense work schedule. “I was on a call with my wife, Sheetal Thakur, and we discussed everything. I felt that I had achieved as much as an actor in India. Both 12th Fail and The Sabarmati Report received acclaim, and physically, I was exhausted. I shot 284 days last year,” he shared.

The actor admitted that with the success of his films, he felt the need to recalibrate and improve as an artist. “When the Prime Minister of my country is watching a film close to my heart, I felt the need to better myself as an actor. I wanted to take a break, recalibrate, and improve,” he explained. He later issued a clarification after fans struggled to understand his original post.

Asked about moments of pride or arrogance, Vikrant responded, “If I am at my peak, my eyes bow down. I know that nothing is permanent. Arrogance can take you nowhere. I value respect over everything.”

Looking ahead, Vikrant expressed interest in pursuing directing and producing, though he emphasized that his focus right now is on his upcoming film next year and his family life. “I also want to focus on my health and write more. I haven’t slept properly in years, so that’s a priority for me,” he shared.
