A day after his social media post sparked speculation about his retirement from acting, Vikrant Massey has clarified that he is not stepping away from the industry but instead taking a break due to exhaustion and health issues. The actor, who had hinted at retiring after 2025, explained that his words had been “misread” by the public.
In an interview with News18, Vikrant addressed the confusion surrounding his post, stating, “I’m not retiring… Just burned out. Need a long break. Miss home and health is also acting up… People misread it.” He acknowledged that his health had been affected, although he did not go into specifics about the ailment he was dealing with.
On Monday, Vikrant shared a cryptic post on social media that read, “The last few years and beyond have been phenomenal… But as I move forward, I realise it’s time to recalibrate and go back home. As a Husband, Father & a Son. And also as an Actor. So, coming 2025, we will meet each other for one last time. Until time deems right.” This message led to widespread speculation about his career, with many questioning the timing of such an announcement, especially as Vikrant is at the peak of his career.
While some industry colleagues expressed concern and sympathy, others, like his Haseen Dillruba co-star Harshvardhan Rane, suggested that the announcement could be a publicity stunt. “I’m praying this is just some PR activity forced on him by some filmmaker,” Harshvardhan told Bollywood Bubble.
The actor’s comments about his future come just days after attending a special screening of his film The Sabarmati Report, where he was joined by prominent figures including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. At the event, Vikrant declined to discuss his “retirement” further.
Vikrant Massey had a breakthrough year in 2023 with the success of 12th Fail, directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, which became the biggest solo hit of his career. Later this month, a behind-the-scenes feature on the making of 12th Fail, titled Zero Se Restart, will be released in theatres.
Known for his work in both television and film, Vikrant first gained recognition with roles in shows before moving on to acclaimed films such as A Death in the Gunj and Lootera. His recent comments have sparked a wave of interest about his future in the industry, but for now, he insists he’s just taking some time off to focus on his well-being.
