In a surprising turn of events for the famously private couple, Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma were recently asked to leave a cafe in New Zealand. The reason, however, was not due to any controversy but simply because their conversation with Indian women’s cricket star Jemimah Rodrigues went on for over four hours.
Rodrigues, who recently appeared on The Bombay Journey on Mashable India, recounted the humorous incident. She explained that she and her teammate, Smriti Mandhana, approached Virat to talk about batting. Their conversation was so engaging that Virat and Anushka invited them to a cafe where both the men’s and women’s teams were staying.
”Anushka was also there,” Rodrigues said. “First half an hour we talked about cricket. He actually told Smriti and me that ‘you both have the power to change women’s cricket, and I can see that happening.'” She added that the conversation soon shifted to life, making them feel like “long-lost friends.” The only reason the chat stopped, she quipped, was because the cafe staff “kicked us out.”
Anushka and Virat, who began dating in 2013, married in Italy in December 2017. They have two children, daughter Vamika, born in January 2021, and son Akaay, born in February 2024. The couple is known for being very private about their family life and has a strict no-photo policy for their children.
