Vivek Oberoi ‘Didn’t Help’, Says Cousin Akshay Oberoi On Success In ‘Fighter’

Actor Akshay Oberoi has impressed critics and audiences alike with his performance in the recent blockbuster Fighter. But did you know that he is the cousin of Vivek Oberoi, who was once a rising star in Bollywood?

In an interview with Dainik Bhaskar, Akshay Oberoi revealed that he never got any help from Vivek Oberoi or his father Suresh Oberoi, who are both established actors in the industry.

He said that he never asked for work from them, nor did they offer him any. He added that he respected them as actors, but it was a coincidence that he did Inside Edge with Vivek.

Akshay Oberoi’s Struggle in Bollywood

Akshay Oberoi admitted that his career would have skyrocketed if he had received help from Vivek Oberoi, who had a promising debut with Company in 2002.

However, Vivek’s career took a nosedive after his infamous press conference against Salman Khan in 2003, which alienated him from many filmmakers and actors.

Akshay Oberoi, on the other hand, had to struggle for years to get recognition in Bollywood. He made his debut with Isi Life Mein in 2010, which was a flop.

Then he also appeared in films like Pizza, Laal Rang, Gurgaon, and Kaalakaandi, which were critically acclaimed but commercially unsuccessful. He also did web series like The Test Case, Flesh, and Illegal.

Akshay Oberoi’s Breakthrough with Fighter

Akshay Oberoi’s luck changed when he was cast as Squadron Leader Basheer ‘Bash’ Khan in Siddharth Anand’s Fighter, which starred Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles. The film was a massive hit, and Akshay’s role as a brave and loyal friend of Hrithik’s character won him praise from all quarters.

He said that he was grateful to Siddharth Anand for giving him such an impactful role in a big commercial movie.

Fighter is an aerial action film that revolves around the Indian Air Force and its missions.

The film was released during the Republic Day weekend and broke several box office records. It also featured Anil Kapoor, Karan Singh Grover, Sanjeeda Sheikh, and Rishabh Sawhney in supporting roles.

Akshay Oberoi is now looking forward to more challenging and diverse roles in Bollywood.

He has proved his mettle as an actor and has shown that he does not need any nepotism to succeed in the industry. He is a self-made star who has earned his place in the hearts of the audience.
