Dharmendra and Bimal Roy had a very close friendship since past many years. Bimal Roy gave Dharmendra a chance in the 1963 film ‘Bandini’ and thus established Dharmendra as a powerful actor apart from his He-Man image.
During his struggle days, Dharmendra had come to Bimal Roy to ask for work. When four reels of his film ‘Shola Aur Shabnam’ were ready, Dharmendra then requested Bimal Roy to watch his film, which he accepted. The director of ‘Shola Aur Shabnam’ refused to show those four reels. Then Dharmendra persuaded Anant Apte, the editor of the film, to show those four reels to Bimal Roy. After this Bimal gave Dharmendra a chance to work in his film ‘Bandini’. After this film, Dharmendra got a chance to work in most of the films directed by Bimal Roy. His films became very successful and he became a star of Hindi cinema.
